[edit] Goals and Objectives

  • To be the one-stop source of high-quality objective information about Islam
  • To allow Muslims to have their own articles in response to an article on the site
  • To be a role model and information resource for other websites critical of Islam
  • To stay away from the extremist, sensationalist and emotional commentary often seen on many websites that are critical of Islam and in conjunction with that:
  • To let the facts speak for themselves

[edit] History

WikiIslam came online on 27 October, 2005 accessible with the URL of wiki.faithfreedom.org but its opening was not made public at that time because it was in a testing phase. A handful of editors worked on the website to help start it off. The website was made public on Sept 4, 2006.

[edit] Technology

WikiIslam is based on the same software that Wikipedia uses. Here is an interesting video featuring Brion Vibber talking about the technology. Brion is the Chief Technology Officer of Wikimedia, the organization which made the software on which WikiIslam, Wikipedia and other wikis run.
